Encoder Products Company: A Rising Force in the Federal Marketplace
Located in an unassuming building along Highway 95 in Sagle, Idaho, Encoder Products Company (EPC) is making a significant impact in the federal marketplace. EPC has steadily increased its presence in the government sector since its initial entry in 2012. The company’s first contract award came in 2013 from the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Land and Maritime, where they supplied synchros and resolvers for electronics and communications equipment.
“Encoder Products Company (EPC) is a leading designer and world-wide manufacturer of motion sensing devices. EPC began operations in 1969, producing a line of custom encoders (the original Cube series) from a small, home-based shop. Today, EPC is one of the largest privately-held encoder manufacturers in North America, producing the most complete line of incremental and absolute rotary encoders in the industry. Meeting the diverse needs of a wide range of global customers, EPC’s core philosophy is that each and every customer deserves quality products, superior customer service, and expert support. Adherence to these principles has enabled EPC to achieve its goal of maintaining long-lasting customer relationships.”
In 2023, Mike Erikson, the Technical Sales and Marketing Manager for EPC, attended a webinar on government contracting, which introduced him to the Idaho APEX Accelerator. Recognizing the potential benefits, he promptly registered EPC with the program and began utilizing the no-cost services offered to Idaho businesses seeking guidance on selling to the government. EPC has secured several contracts independently, but the expertise of Idaho APEX Consultant, Beth Freeman Myers, has been instrumental in their continued success. “We didn’t know what we didn’t know,” Erikson remarked, emphasizing the value of the guidance they received. “Beth helped us realize the importance of HUBZone certification and navigated the complexities of Sam.gov.”
Since partnering with Idaho APEX, EPC has been awarded significant contracts from federal prime contractors, valued at over $3 million. These contracts have solidified their position in the federal marketplace, with their largest customer now coming from a federal contract.
When asked if he would recommend the Idaho APEX program to other business owners, Erikson enthusiastically responded, “Yes – in fact, I’ve already recommended it to several others, including my wife for her company.”
The Idaho APEX team anticipates a bright future for EPC, largely due to the commitment and diligence of Mike Erikson and his team. Their dedication to mastering the intricacies of the federal contracting process is paying off, and at EPC, success is clearly on the horizon.
